Plot
Narayanan (Rajinikanth) is a jobless young man who has his own apartment, but lives in a house belonging to his mother's (Manivannan) brother's (Santhanam) daughter (Diya). She studies in a medical college in Chennai. She falls in love with her professor, Dr. Natarajan (Jaishankar), but he is in love with her elder sister, Lakshmi (Sarathkumar). However, she doesn't know about it. Narayanan was in love with a girl named Jaya (Aishwarya Rai), but he loses her love because he has not chosen a career and lives with his mother. He then travels to the outskirts of Chennai and falls in love with his colleague, Shruti (Aishwarya Rai). They start living together and get married with the help of their friend Manu.
Meanwhile, Lakshmi is in love with a rich person named Azhagi (Vadivelu) and Lakshmi's uncle (Ponnambalam) helps her to convince Azhagi to marry her. Lakshmi's younger sister Nandhini (Diya) wants to marry someone who is not much rich, as she is a good student and has a beautiful face. Nandhini's classmate Velu (Manivannan) is a good friend of Narayanan. One day, Lakshmi has a fight with Jaya, because she wanted to marry Natarajan, but she refused. One day, Narayanan asks his friend to get his wife's family's permission for their marriage. Lakshmi goes to visit her elder sister and meets Nandhini. She promises Nandhini that she will get a rich man for her. At the same time, Lakshmi meets Natarajan and they fall in love with each other. They get their parents' approval and decide to get married.
Meanwhile, Nandhini is taken to a relative's house and the servant takes the opportunity to steal money from her pocket. The servant asks her to take a bribe from the police to reveal
